Welcome to the Insecure Writer's Support Group for June. We are meeting on the first Wednesday of the month, but I needed to post early. I hope this doesn't confuse you. This group is hosted by Alex J. Cavavaugh and you can visit the main website
HERE. This is a bloghop so visit other members from the list at the website.
Find Your Character's Voice
You can find a character's voice by asking questions. Ask more questions than what does he/she look like. Nat Russo has an excellent post on his website: "
How Do You Find A Character's Voice?". Here is an example of his questions:
- Who are you?
- What do you care about most in the world?
- What really ticks you off?
- If you could do one thing and succeed at it, what would it be?
Nat's interview questions make you realize the whole person. When you are finished asking questions, you may not write everything in your story, but your character, good or bad, is well rounded.
It always helps to know your characters and their motivations.
ReplyDeleteSusan: That's right! The better understanding you have, the more you can do to create a well rounded character.
DeleteI guess it's like making friends with them to learn all about them.
ReplyDeleteJo: Yes. When you interview a character you learn all you can.
DeleteI'll have to check out her list of questions!
ReplyDeleteAlex: I hope you enjoy the post!
DeleteHi Karen, I like this list of four questions that we should ask our characters to get a better grip on them. Thanks for sharing.

Rachna: I think I should have added more from his list for you. I'm glad you liked it.
DeleteSounds like a great resource. Yeah, it helps to ask questions of our characters and learn who they are.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! These other types of questions seem to open up the character. That's why I like them too.
DeleteWell noted. Simple questions that make endearing characters who live in our memories for a long time. Hi Karen. I'm late. #58. Happy Belated IWSG day.
ReplyDeleteHi Jolene: Thanks! I was early!
